Roots & Shoots 🌱✨

Over the past few months I've really fallen in love with gardening. It's become my favourite spot to be!  There's something so magical about getting your hands in the dirt, planting new seeds and watching them come to life. At first it may not look like much is happening but I know that the best growth happens underground in creating strong roots. During the warm weather and after a good rain the shoots start popping up and peeking out of the soil. It's amazing how a seed can turn into lush greenery, tasty veggies, vibrant flowers and juicy fruit!

I love seeing the garden thrive and I can't wait for it to bloom into something spectacular!

I have been gathering as much plant wisdom as I can from books to blog posts and through fellow green thumbs who are passionate about growing and preserving food. There is so much knowledge to be shared - from companion planting to planting in succession, building trellises for climbing plants, to deterring pests and attracting pollinators (hello bees! 🐝).

In past years I have helped out in other people's gardens and I've learned about caring for different vegetables, when to water, sun-loving versus shade loving plants and different methods of gardening like no-dig gardens and adding home fertilizer and compost for soil health and nutrients for different plants.

Gardening is so much more than just growing food. It can bring so many incredible benefits such as being out in the sun and fresh air, feeling grounded, and practicing mindfulness. It's about sharing plants, vegetables and baked goods with neighbours. It's a chance to be apart of a likeminded community to share knowledge, tips and tricks and work towards more self-sufficiency - all while encouraging nutrition and soulfulness.

One of the most rewarding parts of gardening is creating a fresh meal with homegrown food from the garden. I'm so excited to be able to harvest my vegetables and fruit to create delicious meals and baked goods. πŸ₯—πŸ°πŸ«
